Nights with Diesel

Get Diesel With Diesel!  Check out Diesel's blog as he takes you through his trip to "Get Diesel" with High Performance!

RESULTS:

(Still) Getting Diesel

Summing up a journey that I still consider to be ongoing is tough.  In fact, it's just getting started.  For the past 6 months I've been working with Clay Burwell and Elizabeth Burwell, owners and trainers at Greenville's High Performance Gym.  You've seen me post photos of the work outs and multiple before and after pictures.  My body has changed tremendously over the last half year, and I'm very proud of what I've accomplished, but I really am just getting started.

I could go into detail about how 1 hour a day of working out has changed my life for the better.  It's made me more positive, more assertive, more confident, but I'd rather challenge you to do the same thing.  Now, you may not be in the same position I was in when I started.  I was looking to lose about 10-15 lbs and bulk up.  You might need to lose 20, 30, 50 lbs before you're ready to start the more advanced workouts that Clay programs, but that's okay.  We have a member who was vastly over weight when he came in and has dropped close to 30 lbs in just over 3 months, and he did it the right way.  No diet pills, no injections, no surgeries, just hard work and clean eating.

I read something that scared me the other day:  today's children are the first generation since the great depression expected to live shorter lives than their parents.  Think about that.  Do this for your own health, your own life, but do it to set an example to your children.

14 lbs down, muscle up, stamina up, conditioning up.  This is only the beginning.

Enormous thanks to High Performance Gym for their guidance and motivation.  Visit their website and their Facebook page and get started on your journey too.

It Doesn't Get Easier...

One irrefutable fact I've learned in my 5 months at High Performance Gym is "It doesn't get any easier".  The fact is, you just keep getting better.  If you're working out and it's "easy" you aren't working hard enough.  Pure and simple.  I'm doing work outs these days that would've left me puking on the High Performance lawn a few months ago.  These last few days have been absolute killer workouts.

Today was a miniature version of the Apex Games base line workout:

30 dead lifts @ 225
10 burpees
30 wall balls
10 burpees
2 laps farmer's walks

As many reps as possible for 10 minutes.  If you finish, you start again until time is up.  I was able to finish 1 round + 14 reps on the dead lifts.

What I am most grateful for is Clay's meticulous eye for form, and his ability to diagnose the problem that is causing it.  I was rounding my back more than I should on the dead lifts.  He diagnosed it as tight calves not allowing me to get my butt low and my chest out (creating a flat back).

Focus on form, the weight will come!

#GetDiesel

So, I'm now past the half way point of my "Get Diesel with Diesel" challenge at High Performance Gym.  I feel so incredibly strongly about how much Clay and Elizabeth have elevated every aspect of my life, that I'd like to tell you exactly what "Get Diesel" means to me.

Get Diesel to me is not only getting in great physical shape.  Yes, that's a big part of it but not all.  To me, it's about raising the bar for everything you do.  It's about creating a winning attitude and letting that seep into every aspect of your life.  My time at High Performance Gym has changed me.  I now have a much more positive mental outlook.  It has made me more patient; it has made me more confident.  Both of those have helped make my radio show better.  Within 3 months of working out there my ratings jumped tremendously, vaulting me to the #1 night show in the Upstate.

To "Get Diesel" means I am starting to become the master of my life; becoming the alpha, instead of me being at the mercy of external factors.

You may be asking "yeah, but how does working out make all of those things happen?"  I can't really explain that, and to be honest, you may not experience those same results, but I have.  What I can say is your life will change.  You will make a set of close personal friends who all support each other, push each other, and try to make each other better.

Find High Performance Gym on Facebook or visit www.highperformancegym.com.  Take a look at their credentials and their class schedule, then come in for a few free classes to see what it's all about.

THE HALF WAY POINT

Hey P1s, for three months now you've heard me talk about or post about my workouts at Greenville's High Performance Gym.  You've heard me say how great it is, but the proof really is in the pictures and the hard numbers.  Right above this post is my first set of progress pictures.  Those were actually taken at 11 weeks, but still close enough.  Here's what 12 weeks of hard work, clean eating, and dedication did:
Look at that!  I lost almost three inches off my waist and put 2 inches on my chest.  Obviously for you ladies the chest isn't an area you want to build, so this is skewed a little more for men, but WOW.  You can see in the pictures what kind of change that really is!

Now, what do those numbers really mean?  Well on day 1 all new members take a general fitness test.  It measures what you're capable of on day 1.  Here's how I changed.

Week 0: 47 pushups (in 2 min), 23 sit-ups (in 2 min), 4 pull ups (continuous), and I sprinted 500m on the rower in 1:41.

Week 12:  61 pushups (+14), 30 sit-ups (+9), 11 pull ups (+6), 1:35 500m sprint (- :06).

I can't thank Clay and Elizabeth Burwell at High Performance for guiding me through this.  I still have a long way to go, this is only the beginning, and I will continue to push, I will continue to fight, and I will continue to improve.  Thank you all for your continued support and words of motivation.  If you're looking to get back into rigorous training, or if you are already at a gym but want to step it up, I highly recommend HPG.

If you have any questions about my journey, please ask I'd love to answer them.

Thanks for reading.

Pushing Through Limits

Hello.

I'm writing again to update you on my progress with High Performance Gym in Greenville.  As you're aware, I started working with trainers Clay and Elizabeth Burwell November 1st, which puts me just past the 8 week mark.  As of January 3rd I weighed 210.8 lbs, down from roughly 219 when I started.  Weight loss is great, but it's not really the focus of this journey.  To be honest, pounds lost isn't a great indicator of fitness results, how your clothes fit is.  Pants that I just purchased a few weeks before starting with HPG are fitting loser in the waist, a little tighter in the legs (ie muscle built).  Shirts are fitting tighter across my arms and looser around my midsection.  All great things.

Really, I want to talk about gains made in the gym though.  Of course you have to fuel the machine.  Putting good fuel in leads to better results coming out.  I chose to sacrifice sleep Saturday morning and go in for a workout.  Saturdays at HPG are open gym, meaning you come in and set your own workouts.  As I'd just smoked my shoulders doing a dead lift / power clean / split jerk AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) just a day before I wanted to work chest and back.  I can proudly say that I PRed my bench at 260.  My previous PR (personal record) was 255.  I'd also like to say that I'm crazy proud of new HPG member Ken who in only 3 weeks of working out increased his bench PR from 145 to 195.  YEAH!  FIFTY pounds in two weeks.  That dude is a beast.

Next I decided to go for a new PR on dead lifts.  If you don't know what a dead lift is look it up on youtube.  I'm still new to Oly (short for Olympic) lifting so my initial PR of 325 wasn't bad, but not great.  I wanted to blow that number out of the water and with a PMA (positive mental attitude) I was able to dead lift 355 lbs.  Now that's a number I can be proud of.  My goal is to eventually join the 400lb club.  Newbie Ken set his first ever dead lift PR at 255...an impressive number.

Working out is fun, lifting heavy objects, testosterone flowing, etc.  But what has surprised me the most is how much of a family every one is at HPG.  Everyone knows everyone's name.  Everyone supports and roots for each other.  Sure our competitive natures come out at times but everyone there is at a different level in their fitness, and just the fact that they've made commitments to increase their fitness makes us respect each other.  That's something I've never had at any other gym I've ever joined.  That is why YOU should come see what High Performance Gym is all about.  You may be thinking "it sounds hard" -- yeah...it is.  It's supposed to be.  Anything worth accomplishing is hard.  It's not for everyone, so come try it out.  Your first two workouts are free, then sign up for a month.  There are never any contracts so if you want to bail you can, but I highly doubt you will.

Getting Pumped

Today was probably the hardest workout day I've had so far.  Abs, abs, and more abs.  I always thought I was in alright shape as far as abs go...I was wrong:

20 GHD Situps
10 Low Back Extensions
15 Ab Wheel
10 Knees to Elbows
(5 rounds)
BONUS: 3 Farmers Walk around building

I can't tell you how much fun I've had working out over there at  High Performance Gym.  If you're looking to challenge yourself, get into the best shape you've ever been in, maybe you're returning military who wants to keep up your fitness under the training of another veteran (Clay was 82nd Airbourne), you should check out High Performance Gym.

The Other 23

Yo!

So I'm now about 2 weeks into my own personal work out challenge with High Performance Gym, and I'm getting into the groove of the workouts.  Honestly I knew learning to eat right would be the tough part of this challenge, because I love eating the typical American diet:  pizza, burgers, fried chicken, etc.  I've been doing it for 29 years.

Eating "paleo" is really where it's at.

As explained to me by Clay, "early man didn't always have access to big meals and an animal protein source.  Caveman didn't exactly bag a deer every day.  They forraged, eating small quantities of nutrient rich food constantly.  Walking down the trail, see some berries or nuts, eating them always to stave off hunger".  The science behind that is eating large meals spikes your blood sugar and your body says "something's wrong, I'm not constantly getting food, gotta store up some fat for later".  So we're essentially eating to get fat.  Eating smaller meals every 2-3 hours keeps our blood sugar and metabolism running at more of a straight line than a McDonald's arch.

That's where my focus has been lately.  I have to overcome my food addictions and train myself to eat more like a cave man.  I got this!  Besdies, once you get used to cooking quality meals for yourself, the food you get out doesn't taste nearly as good.  Getting in a hard workout is great, but it's what you do to and put in your body the other 23 hours a day that really make the difference!

Hit them up, @HighPerformanceGym on Facebook or highperformancegym.com

Pushing Through Limits

Yesterday if you'd told me to climb a 20 ft rope I would've said "you're crazy, I'm 218 lbs I can't do that".  Add the fact that I HATE heights and I'd be looking for reasons not to climb.  The idea of being 20 ft in the air holding on to a rope scared the sh*t out of me.  Today, I did it.

You know that old saying "whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you're right?"  That's absolutely true.  Today's workout started with a pilates warm up (still a butt kicker), then a push press/rope climb combo.  5 push presses at 145 lbs, climb the rope, 4 reps, climb the rope, 3 reps, etc until you get to the last one.  That was tough, my shoulders were burning but I got up that rope.

Feeling accomplished!

Click over to my "Diesel On The Radio" facebook page to see the video, and give High Performance Gym a call (864) 735-8808.  You can even take one free class.  I promise, you'll be hooked after just one and want to GET DIESEL too.

And So It Begins

Two workouts in...how do I feel?  AWESOME!

I feel like a lot of people stop working out, not because they lose motivation but because they never had it all.  They never decided in their minds "I'm going to do this, no matter how much work it takes, no matter how much blood and sweat it takes, no matter how much COMMITTMENT it takes".  Perhaps that's what's wrong with America.  Everyone wants the results, no one wants to put in the work.

I decided to challenge myself.  I wanted to know if I could get in the same shape as the athletes I see on TV.  I'm two workouts in, obviously this is only the beginning, and yeah the workouts make your muscles tired and sore, but that's what's supposed to happen.

Here's what I've done so far:
11/1 -- FMS (Flexibility Movement Screen).  This determines your range of motion.  I scored a 15, which is passing (two higher than Matt "Jason Bourne" Damon (take that Good Will Hunting).  After that a pushup max, situp max, bench press max, pullups, 500m sprint on the rowing machine, and 10 minutes on the airdyne.  The areas where I need to improve the most of those are situps and pullups...those were definitely weak.

11/4 -- Pilates/core training.  I'd never done anything like pilates before, always thought it was for women...well I'll tell you right now, pilates is no joke...I was sweating like a beast.  After that, deadlifts, rack pulls, and farmers carry.  My forearms have been on fire all day from those rack pulls.  With 275 lbs on a barbell, I had to hold on as long as I could, rest, and do it again.  Three different grips.  It hurt to pull these heavy station doors open today.

Back in the gym at 9:30 Wednesday morning.  Can't wait!

Find High Performance Gym on Facebook, find my "Diesel On the Radio" page, and follow me on Twitter @diesel933 to watch video clips and see pics from each day's workouts.

Challenge yourself.  Call HPG (864) 735-8808 and ask how you can get started.

It's Time To "Get Diesel"

It's time!

Starting tomorrow I undertake a major challenge: to truly GET DIESEL!  You know me as the potty mouthed turn-anything-into-a-d*ck-joke night show host on the Planet.  I like shooting guns, 4 wheeling in the woods, and going to heavy metal shows.  All my life I've enjoyed working out.  I consider myself to be in decent shape.  I'm 6'0", 218 lbs, muscular build, but like most people work and life caught up with me...my 4-5 day a week workout schedule fell to 2-3, my diet got worse (I mean come on, who doesn't love pizza and burgers) and I wasn't getting enough exercise to eat whatever I wanted anymore.

In high school I played sports.  I wasn't the biggest, fastest, or strongest player on the team but no matter what I never quit.  I can still remember running basketball suicides until I puked, then getting back out there and running some more.  I loved being pushed to a breaking point.  I've always believed that losing weight and getting fit cannot and will not come out of a bottle.  A pill or a powder is only a temporary pharmaceutical fix, and when I heard HPG's motto "there is no magic pill, hard work is the only way" I knew I'd crashed into the right people.

Which is why I'm so excited to have this opportunity to team up with Clay and Elizabeth Burwell at High Performance Gym in Greenville.  In my heart I knew what I needed to do, but didn't know how.  They are the how.  You may or may not have heard their radio commercials about them training celebrities like Matt Damon, Anna Paquin, and Bruce Springsteen.  Do you think Jason Bourne, Rogue, or 'The Boss' would hire Clay to travel the world with him if he wasn't legit?

What I want to gain from this 6 month run with HPG is both simple and complex.  Simply, I want to improve myself; but specifically I want to:

  • Improve my strength and stamina.
  • Change my diet -- there's a reason a majority of Americans are overweight and on medications -- we eat terribly.
  • Improve my mental and physical discipline.
  • Drop 10-15 lbs from my current weight of 218.
  • Regain that drive and addiction to working out I once had.
If any of those goals sound similar to goals you may have I invite you to follow along with my progress while I "Get Diesel".  I'll be posting videos and blogs regularly throughout.  Track me and take the challenge for yourself.  Workout videos will show you what happens inside the gym, my blogs, Facebook posts, and Tweets will track how I'm feeling mentally throughout.  I certainly look forward to your words of encouragement and your questions.  Of course you can reach out to the Burwells also, afterall they're the experts.

A Formal Apology

Yesterday I posted a photo on the planet's facebook page that regrettably offended an international organization, several of its local members, and a local business owner.  It absolutely was not my intention to offend or make light of anyone associated with the organization or the business.  It was careless and downright stupid of me to do so.

Amateur Contest

The professionalization of amateur sports is something we've seen in motion for quite a while.

Specifically what's on my mind is the current push by the "big 6" college football conferences and their desire/intent to pay their players.  The "Big 6", comprised of the SEC, BIG10, BIG12, ACC, PAC-12, and C-USA are, of course the six highest profile, and highest revenue generating conferences in the sport.  They're seen on TV weekly, they're seen in video games, and they have a massive marketing and merchandising machine behind them.

SEC commissioner Mike Slive hinted at it, ACC commish John Swofford flirted with the notion, and the new BIG12 head honcho came right out and said it...the BIG6 commissioners feel that they have been beholden to the small conferences desire to keep the playing field level for too long, and that they should have the right to break away from the NCAA and govern themselves with their own rules.  Essentially what it comes down to is money.  These schools have the means to pay their players, and they feel they should have the right to.

This is what troubles me.  I attended a very well known small school, Appalachian State.  We had tremendous success on the playing field winning 3 national championships in a row and beating Michigan.  Starting with the 2014 season App will be a member of the Sunbelt conference; we've arrived, right?  Perhaps not.

Actions taken over the last 2 years show that the BIG6 has tolerated the smaller schools long enough, but want to take their ball and play somewhere else.  After the 2012 season, the BIG10 announced its schools will no longer play schools from the Football Championship Subdivision and SEC's Mike Slive announced a desire to move from 8 to 9 conference games, thus practically squeezing the smaller schools off their schedule.  The other conferences will be forced to follow in their own way if they want to keep up.

This is a very complex issue:

1)  It's a case of an arms race between the haves and the have nots.  The haves want to protect what they have, while the have nots want a piece.  But conference realignment forced leagues to bring in new members, most of which were pulled from smaller conferences.  To me this is backward logic.  They are the ones who brought the smaller schools up, now they want to break away with those schools in tow.

2)  There's the Ed O'bannion case.  Essentially, the NCAA licenses the rights to use schools' names and mascots, but not its players.  They've always flirted with using players' likenesses by copying their stats and jersey numbers...well it appears they used this guy's likeness a little too closely and someone caught it.  He sued and won and there's a class action lawsuit in the works that could award millions to former and current players.  Obviously schools make a pretty penny licensing to EA but under amateurism laws can't pass any of it along to the players.  The proposed stipend system would allow schools to pay players a "reasonable" amount for playing football, license their images (as they're now being paid) thus protecting them from future similar lawsuits.

3)  The ability to pay your players is a tremendous recruiting tool, especially if schools are allowed to determine their own stipend amount.  Imagine you're a 17 year old kid about to commit.  Would you play for Kentucky who can offer you $1,000 a year or Alabama who could offer $8,000?  Would every school be forced to offer their players the same stipend?  Would football players earn more than basketball players?  Would soccer or lacrosse players earn anything at all?  Would male athletes get paid more than female?  Could you imagine the law suits involved?

4)  If the BIG6 had the right to govern themselves independent of NCAA rules, would they change the number of years of eligibility?  If players could stay at their schools longer and get paid for it, it would essentially make college football a rival league to the NFL.  Would Roger Goodell stand for this?

I for one hope someone steps in to end this.  This system would give the big revenue schools a monopoly on the best players, widening the gap between the haves and the have nots.

Diesel Interviews David Draiman

I had the opportunity to chat with Device / Disturbed front man David Draiman today.  Such a cool dude.  We chatted about making it in the modern world as a new band, about communication between band members, and about all of the opportunities that have arisen from the Disturbed hiatus.

Scott Weiland Rants

If you're unfamiliar what's going on with STP, several months ago founding lead singer Scott Weiland announced he was going on a "Purple to the Core" tour.  Scott, out in front of a band that is NOT Stone Temple Pilots would be playing STP's two seminal albums.  A few weeks later, the remaining band members announced they were kicking Scott out, with the possibility of Chester Bennington as a replacement.  Scott has since filed suit saying they don't have the right to call themselves STP anymore.  He posted this letter to his fans on his facebook page May 24th.

A letter to my fans,

Like everybody else out there, I read about my band, Stone Temple Pilots, and their recent performance this past weekend with a new singer. To tell you the truth, it took me by surprise. And it hurt.

But the band that played last weekend was not Stone Temple Pilots and it was wrong of them to present themselves as that.

First of all they don't have the legal right to call themselves STP because I'm still a member of the band. And more importantly, they don't have the ethical right to call themselves Stone Temple Pilots because it's misleading and dishonest to the millions of fans that have followed us for so many years.

When I tour on my own, it's never as Stone Temple Pilots. It's as Scott Weiland. The fans deserve to know what they're getting.

Like any band that's stood the test of time and made music for more than two decades, STP had a special alchemy - the four of us together were greater than any one of us apart. So if my former bandmates want to tour with a new singer, that's their prerogative.

I don't give a fuck what they call themselves, but it's not Stone Temple Pilots.
And so I say to you, our fans, I'll see you out there on the road this summer where I'm touring as "Scott Weiland" with my band The Wildabouts. But don't give up on STP. I know I haven't.

~ Scott

Who do you think is in the right?  Scott or STP?

Drowning Pool at Ground Zero

Last night, May 28th I caught Drowning Pool, Eye Empire, and Ghosts in the Machine at Ground Zero in Spartanburg. I got there just as Eye Empire was starting their set.  Those guys certainly bring a show and an energy equally as strong as bands half their age.  It's always great to see Corey Lowery (a hard rock O.G.) still giving it everything he's got night after night.  I felt that Donald Carpenter's vocals were a little off, and that parts of the show felt choreographed.

The big performance of the night though was Drowning Pool.  Now I know what you're thinking: "Aren't they on singer number 4"?  Answer: Yes.  I had some apprehension on the new guy, Jasen Moreno the first time I heard them, thinking he just didn't have a deep enough voice to match their more recent output, but after seeing them live, those reservations are blown away.  Does he have a deep Ryan McCombs voice?  No, but consider also he's got to fill the shoes of both Dave Williams and Jason Jones.  My opinion is Moreno is the perfect fit to cover the band's entire career of records.  He had a fire in him that would've made you think he was playing for 20,000 (instead of the paltry [maybe] 150 in attendance).  Drummer Mike Luce kept the crowd laughing with his "drunken" antics (he was sober enough to catch drum sticks thrown to him from side stage while playing, so I question how drunk he was).  Bald headed CJ Pierce jumped around like a madman and Stevie Benton left nothing in reserve either.

All in all, good show.  The core members of the band still have it, and Jasen Moreno is a very solid addition to the group.

Shavo from System of a Down Rants

Turns out Adam Gontier isn't the only one who can rant on his band...Shavo Odadjian, bassist from System of a Down went off on Serj Tankian for basically leading the band on...read his entire post here:

ok….. Ill come clean.. Its not us(meaning Daron,John Or Shavo!! Its Sej, who doesn’ want to do a new album!!!! so please stop harassing us about it!!! We are just waiting for SERJ! Now He might hate me for exposing the truth but i Had too.. Sorry folks!!! we’re trying to get a new album out, its just not passing Serj’s RULES! . Kinda funny, since we started the band and now he’s holding us back!! I think we should should release another album again??? As for me.. I’m ready to release one with someone who wants to be the singer of SYSTEM. not soeome we have to beg to be a part of SYSTEM!! So with that in mind, what do you guys w should do? Just remember, Hes been holding us back for 7 years so far.. wanna wait another $-5 years? or shall we release a record without Serj? u tell us?????

I dont want to make a record without him… but if he’s not down? should the 3 of us just sit and wait?? Not cool!!!!!!!! i want the fans from all over the world including Brazil to tell us what they think.
No System? or System with with a new singer whos just as good if not better? PLUS new System songs and tours???? please give me ur opinion people!!! is SYSTEM better with no singer or someone who is excited to be our new singer?? you decide.. cause im confused!!!

no diss to Serj.. If he wants to be in the band then he’s welcome but if he’s not? what do you expect us 3 to do.?? we really want anorther System Record! wish Serj was down but if hes not, then im going ahead and making a System record without him!!! im furious that he let us down like this, but we gotta do something to keep this great band alive!!! agreed????????

(Pardon the broken English, he's foreign...)

Adam Gontier Rant on Facebook

If you're unaware, there has been a long brewing stew of discontent among the members of Three Days Grace which came to a head with founding lead singer Adam Gontier leaving the band in early 2013.  Rumor mills have been spitting out theories as to why (mostly concerning drug use, as Adam had been in rehab previously), but no one truly knew.  Adam says he's clean and sober.  Here's something he posted on his facebook page that addressed the rumors and spoke his side of his departure:

to the people that come here and attempt to get their frustration about my old band out, I have no problem with you posting your opinion of the events that took place. We all know that I have posted many things that, in retrospect, weren't necessary. (I probably still will the odd time)
BUT do NOT forget this.

You DO NOT know, no matter WHO you are, how I, or anybody in that band feels now, or have felt, over the past 5-7 years. And unless I am willing to share those feelings with you personally, you never will. There may, or may not be, a point when I feel I want to share that with you.

If you truly believe that I will return to that band, you haven't really listened to what I've said, and you need to accept what happened, and move forward. Easier said than done... I am constantly working on becoming the best person that I can be, and moving forward and not focusing on the past is hard to do, but also very necessary, when things change.

Many of you out there have decided to make reality, and decisions, out of ignorance. Many of you have chosen to just chalk everything up to... "the way Adam left was wrong and he "screwed them over", or left them "high and dry". How do you know in what manner I left that group? Were you there? Were you a part of it? You were left with "further details of Adam's departure", written by "the band", or people surrounding them. And that's where it's left. By myself as well. So I guess I can assume that we all really DO believe, whole heartedly, what we read on the Internet. What you won't see from me are "further details as to the numerous events, attitudes, and internal battles & frustration built up over years and years, that lead to Adam's departure". It's unnecessary. I know. They know. They "choose to take the high road"..., If you feel a need to tell people again and again that you're taking the "high road".., I'm sorry, but truth is, you're already ON the low road. When you feel as though you have to tell, and explain to thousands of people on a daily basis, that you're a good person, chances are... you're not. You're obviously too self absorbed to realize that other people actually exist, and that they, themselves, have their own lives and problems Just Like You.
My life is good. No, actually it's f#*^n' great. I love my wife so much I miss her when she goes into the other room. I love my family, my dad, my brothers my sister, my real friends, and my beautiful dog & daughter Mabel! I'm actually playing music now with people who, first off, truly are playing music because they actually LOVE it, and LIVE for it. And by "it" I don't mean the "life of a rockstar"., I don't mean the endless amounts demands that you will always get when you are "successful"., I don't mean the money, the hotel rooms, the parties, the kiss ass DJ's, the gophers that get you toilet paper on your demand, the going to the after party club in a limo and being the one, (you think), everyone is looking at, the food brought to your bus on a paper plate backstage at a festival that you're headlining because you don't want people to see you before you go on stage and pretend (lie) to your fans that you're so f*^*n' stoked to be in their hometown, which actually MEANS something to your fans, while you don't even know what the towns name is, other than knowing that you're "somewhere close to Chicago I think". The ego. No. I don't mean the ego.
"It" is not the ego. "It" is making music. In it's TRUE form. The way it is meant to be made. With no pre conceived notions of making sure it will be catchy and under three minutes, so it'll make the radio. With no demands from your mates to write out a set list of the same 15 songs you've played every day, like a robot, just for something to do. The first show I played with my new band was amazing! Do you know why? Because we rehearsed ONCE before we played that show. We didn't know what was going to happen. We had guitars, drums and amps that we'd never used, set up behind us. No expectations. None. When we all sat down together on the day of our first rehearsal, I said to them,
"What do u guys wanna play?"
"Well, it's your call man. Whatever you think we should do"
My call? We ended up sitting down on the couches, eating some food, shootin the shit, & crackin jokes. For HOURS. We had to play our very first show together in about 36 hours. Most would consider jamming for maybe 2 out of 8 hours a waste of time. Perfect segue into an all time favorite Lennon quote:
"Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted."
(Then we broke into "Instant Karma") .... No.... We didn't. I think it was "Never Too Late". We did some Lennon later, because it was just fun to do.
I guess my point of this whole rant that I've been punching into my phone, is that there are two sides to every story. We all know that. We hear it all the time. Do we all practice it? Actually live by it in a situation such as mine? Thankfully many do. Unfortunately, even more don't.
My old band was and is pigeonholed, and always will be. For my mental health, because we all try to make sure we stay healthy, and are concerned when we feel like we aren't, I had to move on and evolve. Whether it meant crawling and scratching my way back into the ears of music fans out there or not. Didn't matter. I could not and will not, sacrifice the music that I make, that I was born with and that is "in my blood", for a false reality. Unfortunately, people find it hard to see the big picture. Writing the same songs with the same chords, with the same basic lyrical ideas and the same drop D power chords, is too easy. Once you've made it, with that formula, it's next to impossible to escape.
I am thankful every single morning I wake up, that I was able to escape.
And every morning I am even more thankful and honored that so many people get it, and are following me on this journey. It's a brand new journey with no destination. Everything happens for a reason. For some purpose. I can feel deep down, that this journey has more purpose than I could have imagined...
I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Wow. That was about 2 hours typing all of that. The perfect amount of time it took for my first upload to finally finish.
Yep. I'll post it in about 5 minutes!
And just to answer your questions that you may feel a need to ask after watching it.... Yes. I will play ANY song that I have written, or have been a part of writing, ANY time I feel like it, ANYWHERE I decide to. Cool?
I've got no regrets.
Nuff said! lol.
Peace,
Adam

Spoiler Alert!

Thursday night I caught the midnight premier of Iron Man 3 in IMAX 3D.  Iron Man 3 had all the familiar plot points that made parts 1 and 2 so much fun: a sociopathic, ego driven Tony Stark is on top of the world when a bad guy arrives to shatter that, shake Tony's confidence, send him and the suit back to the drawing board, and ultimately give him the opportunity to adapt and overcome to save the day.  In this installment, a flashback shows Tony snubbing a young scientist (Aldrich Killian) who teams up with an idealistic botanist working on a cellular regeneration project (think lizards who regrow their tails when injured) and uses her work for eeeevil!  Iron Man 3 does use some of the same plot devices to keep a similar feel to parts 1 and 2, but approaches them in different ways and does allude to both the Avengers and real-life threats like international terrorism.  One thing I've always liked about the Iron Man series is it's rooted in what is plausible.  All of the technology and gadgets in Tony's suits have felt like they're on the real-life horizon, however 'the Avengers' gave Iron Man 3 permission to break away from that just a bit.  Some super hero movie cliche's are all too familiar, such as the girl being captured forcing the good guy to save her.  The ending came across as a little confusing to me (without giving it away), if doing X doesn't kill the bad guy the first time, why would it kill him the second time?  The way the villain is finally defeated also poses and interesting sign of the times, but left a strange (not bad, just strange) taste in my mouth.

Sad Day in Boston

As details are still coming in, it would be inappropriate of me to go into details of today's events in Boston.  I would however like to make a request to anyone who may be so inclined, PLEASE do not try to politicize this event, do not try to fit this tragedy into whatever idealogical beef you may have.  Remember those who have been hurt or killed and their families, pray for them.

This One Time In Spartanburg

Always hearing about the crazy sh*t that goes down in the Sparkle City...last year a dude was selling wooden iPads outside a McDonalds, another guy I heard about was arrested driving around with a balloon of drugs up his b-hole.  Is everyone in that town nuts?  I wanted to hear your stories of "This One Time In Spartanburg..."

Musings on Love This Valentine's Day

Being that Valentines is now just three days away, I feel compelled to speak about something I'm currently going through and lessons learned from it.  A relationship with someone whom I cared for very deeply ended recently.  I can't say that petty differences are the reason.  In this situation is boils very simply down to fundamentals, and a difference in opinion on how we both view our past looking through that lens.  I have no interest in going into details or pointing fingers, but I've learned a few lessons from my experience.

Maintaining any relationship is a two way street, it's compromise.  This applies to both daily interaction and deeper issues.  Ladies, no matter how hard you try, you're never going to change your man -- afterall why would you want to? -- You fell for him the way he was before, not for what you thought he might be.  You have to be willing to meet in the middle, synthesize your problems and commit to resolving them.  You will never find everything you want in a single person.  You will never agree with everything a person says or does, but if you care for that person you love them for their flaws as much as their strengths.

Let go of the past, whether it be issues stemming from past relationships, or those from your current one.  If you want to make something work you can't let your own baggage infect your attempt -- because it will if you let it.

Relationships are supposed to be work, but not THAT much work.  You work on doing the little things to make the other happy (or you work on showing your appreciation for the little things the other one does), you work on communicating, you work on spending more time together.  When effort becomes labor you're in trouble.

Gun Control

To this point I've more  or less kept my mouth shut on the issue of the day...gun control.  Perhaps it's because I don't pretend to know everything, nor do I make rash decisions based on a small piece of information.

I'm in the studio right now doing the show and of course, CNN is covering the issue.  I'd like to applaud the team for making a very clear point I think most people don't know:  An assault weapon does not equal a machine gun (which have been illegal in this country since the 1930's).  An assault weapon is generally characterized as such based on it's features; i.e. tactical rails, upgraded sites, grips, etc.  One trigger pull = one round fired.  By that logic, an assault weapon is equally as deadly (or effective depending on your point of view) as a hand gun.  Again, as such an assault weapon ban doesn't make much sense at all.  At least with an assault weapon you can see if someone's got it because they're so big.

I don't think any new gun control is necessary.  We have thousands of gun laws on the books, and politics has neutered those laws.

In my opinion, we need to examine, overhaul, and streamline the laws we already have instead of making everything more convoluted.

Is Manti an Evil Genius?

Huge news story today, it turns out the girlfriend of Notre Dame star linebacker Manti Te'o never even existed.  All reports are saying now he was having a romantic relationship online with a woman he'd never met, and as it turns out it was someone posing as this woman.  Personally I believe that story.  He's a high profile athlete and I think someone was preying on that.  My caller, however believes it was all an elaborate hoax to help him gain sympathy votes so he could win the Heisman Trophy.  Listen to the full call here:

Bless Me Father...For You're a Freak

This happened back in November, but the 911 call audio has just come out.  Pastor Tom Donovan from St. Aloysius church in Springfield, IL called 911 because he was stuck in a pair of handcuffs...but he wasn't robbed.  He also had a ball gag in his mouth.  Apparently he was getting freaky in the church but his lover apparently ran off and abandoned him.  Well that's not very Christian of him/her.

Santa on Shooms -- Seems Legit

We all know today's Christmas is nothing like Christmas in years gone past.  In the 17 and 1800's Christmas carolers used to knock on people's doors, sing songs, and demand alcohol and food (sounds like the aftermath of the Rise Guys Christmas Party).

An anthropologist from Sierra College in California thinks he's discovered the original roots of the Santa Claus "myth":

His theory on the origin of the Santa story comes from priests in the Arctic and Siberian region dropping hallucinogenic mushrooms into people's teepees in late December up until the 1700s.  He theorizes, "Until a few hundred years ago, these shamans or priests would collect the mushrooms, dry them, and then give them as gifts.  Because snow is usually blocking the doors, there was an opening in the roof, thus the chimney story."

That also helps explain the flying reindeer.  There are a ton of reindeer in Siberia.  They don't fly . . . but if everyone's tripping on shrooms, it's a lot easier to hallucinate and think they're flying.

Most of the rest of the modern Santa Claus story comes from "Twas the Night Before Christmas", which was published in 1823.

F THE POLICE!

I've been pulled over a few times in my life.  Luckly enough, never gotten a ticket for anything, but just about every time the officer has been MUCH ruder than he needed to be (you treat me with respect, I treat you with respect...deal?), but THIS is freaking ridiculous.  A Texas State Trooper pulled two women over after the driver flicked a cigarette butt out of the car window.  In the video, you can see the officer claims to smell a heavy odor of marijuana in the vehicle.  Apparently there were no visible signs of drugs in the car, nor did the driver or passenger show any signs of being on drugs.  But the officer pulled both people out of the car, where both were subjected to a road side cavity search WITH THE SAME PAIR OF GLOVES.  Gah this is gross.  Watch the video below, the search commences at around 2:50.

Trust Issues

Facebook blew up on this as well, here are some of the best comments:

Ses P. dont say a word and put the tracker in a taxi

James J. Have her arrested for unlawful electronic surveillance then kick her out, the end.

Jennifer T. his fault for cheating once the trust is broken it takes forever to get back! but if she cant trust him than maybe she need to find someone else

Adam P. He should eat a dick for cheating and understand there's reasoning for the trust issue.

Gordon S. I put mine on a STATE TROOPER'S car, that I saw sitting at a restaurant. I bet het lawyer loved that. Idiots!!!!!!!

Dawn R. Break it off immediately...go to the nearest truck stop...stick it on a semi....make her think u skipped town with someone!

Let's (not) go bowling

It's that time of year again....no, not the Christmas shopping season, the bowl season.  The time of year when #3 in the BCS polls gets snubbed, and their fan base issues a resounding "rabble rabble rabble"

I for one am thankful the BCS system dies next year in favor of a 4 team playoff for the national championship.  The fans have wanted this for years, it's just a shame it's taken so long for the BCS and conference commissioners to listen to what the customers want.  I've said for 3 years, since the debate began, to let #1 - #4 playoff for the championship, and let #5 + play their gift bag bowls.  See, I went to Appalachian State, an FCS school where we've been playing off for a championship for years.  Playoff football is great and opens the door for more schools to play for a title.

It's about time!

A Time To Walk / A Time To Crawl

It pains me to say this, but this weekend I have to sell off my buddy, I'm selling my 2010 Jeep Wrangler that I bought brand new off the lot with 17 miles on it.  "Vic" (as in Vic Rattlehead - playing on how awesomely rough the ride is) will go the way of the budget cut.

Vic is my dream Jeep.  I've put a 2" Skyjacker lift kit, 33" Nitto Terra Grappler tires, windshield mounted KC fog lights, NASCAR style billet aluminum hood clamps, along with plenty of other smaller accessories onto it.  Alas, I'm trying to downsize and get a hold on my finaicial situation again.

At least I'm trading it for something cool, a 2004 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with a lfit kit and mud tires.

So pour out a little bit for my homie, as the trade happens this weekend.

Mountains Out Of Molehills

Whew!  The election is FINALLY over.  It's time for us to get back to hating each other for our race, religion, and sexual orientation...you know, the important stuff.  I'm 28 and I've only been politically aware / old enough to vote in the last three elections, but it seems to me that in addition to the news discourse getting nastier and nastier, we are acting nastier and nastier towards each other.  Over what?  Politics?

Call me a cynic, but I am under the general impression that my life isn't going to change much no matter who is elected president.  Think about it: every politician knows swinging too far in either direction is political suicide (besides, politicians always vow to dismantle whatever the other side does when they take back control).

I need everyone to calm down and be sensible, and go back to hating your neighbor because he's black, not because he's a Democrat.

Customer Support

Three words that make me cringe every time I hear them..."Charter tech support".  Anyone who has or has had Charter knows what I'm talking about.  How does a company get away with providing such a mockery to the word "support".

I called them because I've had a consistent problem with some of my HD channels pixelating.  Sometimes it's a small annoyance, sometimes the problem makes blocks the program altogether.  After 25 minutes of automated support I finally reached someone (who of course could barely speak English) who proceeded to tell me that "sometimes the sun's rays affect the satellite" -- REALLY?  Finally after another 30 minutes being on the phone we set up an appointment for a crew to come to my apartment and investigate and promised they'd be bringing me a brand new box.

The crew showed up with 20 minutes left in the appointment window, and predictably, couldn't replicate the problem and left without doing anything.  Now I get to wait until this happens again and call them back out.  What happened to "yes sir, we'll take care of it" and have that be it?

DAFUQ IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE

Ever watch that Taboo series on National Geographic?  I've seen dudes with deformities get prostitutes, I've seen a woman fall in love with the Berlin wall, but THIS is just plain effed up.  I can't tell exactly where this is taking place, but there are quite a few Japanese speaking people, so let's assume Japan.  It's a process of injecting saline solution under the skin on your forehead, then pressing an indention into it, and calling yourself a "bagel head".  Just watch:

Hey Man, Can You Help Me Move?

It's that time again, if you live in an apartment you know it all too well...your lease is up and you have to beg your landlords for mercy, as they're trying to raise your rent some rediculous amount...like mine are doing right now.

Two years ago I took advantage of a really great move in special (and a managerial mistake) at a community in Greenville, and was put into a two bedroom apartment for the same rent as a one bedroom.  The first time my lease came up for renewal I talked them into just a slight bump in my rent....round 1 Diesel.  This time around they're out for blood, demanding a $200/month increase and they won't budge...knockout punch.

It's really gotten under my skin their complete unwillingness to work with me.  I offered to pay another small increase, but to no avail.  I understand how supply and demand works.  The housing market sucks, so people are moving families into apartments.  Demand goes up, supply stays the same, so price must go up, but to force a loyal, trouble free tennant out of their apartment just seems wrong.

Any thoughts or housing loopholes I can use here?

Middlemen

Remember in 'Office Space' when Tom Smykowski interviews with the Bob's for his job?  Tom gets flustered and angry when they ask him, "So, what would you say you do here?" and "Why can't the customers just go straight to the software people"?  He replies, "Look, I already told you, I deal with the g*ddamn customers so the engineers don't have to".

That's how I feel right about now, why can't the customers talk directly to the service techs?  I just spent another hour of my life trying to locate a popping sound coming from underneath my Jeep.  I've probably spent at least an hour on three separate occasions at Tire Kingdom (who installed my lift kit) and three separate occasions at Big O Dodge trying to figure it out.  Each one of them saying, "we can't figure it out, must be the other guy's fault".  I just left TK, and after an hour they came out and said, "well we can't figure it out, we can't make it do what you're saying it does, your lift kit is fine, might be your drive line, take it back to Big O where that service is under warranty".  So, naturally I say, "why don't you hop in the car with me and I'll show you".  10 seconds in, it does it and the customer service rep (not the tech) goes, "OOOOH, NOW I HEAR IT, yeah!"  And of course, by that time I had to leave.

Instead of spending an hour going around in circles trying to figure out what I was saying, they could've just asked me and been on point in less than 10 seconds.

Better Be Rich...

How much would it cost you to BE Batman?

--A website has calculated the cost of becoming Batman and it comes out to approximately $785,000.  Here's a breakdown . . .

--One year of elite martial arts training, $75,000.

--Kevlar utility harness, $340.

--Gas-powered magnetic grappling gun, $1,800.

--Advanced Kevlar armor bat suit, $300,000.

--Cape with hang glider potential, $3,400.

--Proper Bat vehicle.  In lieu of building the Batmobile or Batman's Tumbler, you'll probably want a Humvee for $140,000.

--Custom graphite helmet, $250.  Bruce Wayne orders 10,000 of them . . . but you're going to get started with one.

--Sound amplifier for bat ears, $30.

--Full-time butler, $263,000.

--Ten Boomerangs and five riot grenades, $1,200.

--Twenty cans of black spray paint, $120.

--TOTAL COST:  $785,140.

--Also, you don't NEED a house with a hidden Bat Cave underneath . . . but if you want one, it's estimated that Wayne Manor is 42,500 square feet and costs about $32.1 MILLION.  It's got 11 bedrooms, seven baths, a pool, and, again, a hidden Bat Cave

Lamb of God's Randy Blythe Arrested

So here's what we know: Randy Blythe, lead singer of Lamb of God has been arrested on manslaughter charges by Czech police after an incident that took place in 2010 at a Prague concert.  Randy and a stage hand "threw" a fan who had jumped onto the stage back into the crowd.  The 19 year old man fell directly on his head.  After a few weeks being in critical condition, the young man died as a result of his injuries.  Footage has been released via Czech TV of the incident which you can see here.  The incident takes place about :59 seconds in.  By all eyewitness accounts it is being described as an accident, not a fight.  According to Czech TV Blythe was not aware of the fan's death and expressed remorse upon hearing the news.  Randy took part in a 90 minute court hearing today, June 30th and is still in custody.  His bail is set at approx. $200,000 US.

Elmo Needs a Hug (And a xanax wouldn't hurt)

What's wrong with a 7 foot tall red furry symbol of our childhood going off on an anti-semetic rant?  Watch this video of a man famous for delighting children in his Elmo costume in NYC's Central Park blow a gasket.  Police stress that he wasn't "arrested", he was just "removed in handcuffs".

Alice Cooper slams modern rock

-- My pet peeve right now is that 80 to 90% of the modern rock bands are just testosterone free.  I'm listening to these bands going, "Where's the spark?  Where's the fire?"

-- You get in a rock band to be something different.  I guess modern rock bands just really want to blend in and I think it's the most boring time in rock I've ever seen.

-- These bands are whining like crazy.  It's like they're trying NOT to be rock stars.

-- I just don't get the fact that everyone is so against having an image.

He went on to say that two artists he's really impressed with right now are Jack White and the Foo Fighters.

PREACH IT ALICE!  I think a lot of modern rock bands have the "if we step out of the main stream we'll get swept away in the current" mindset.  Meaning if they do something "different" they'll be forgotten.

In a way I think he's dead on.  It's the old school "sell out" debate.  I've seen some of my favorite "out there" rock and metal bands fall in line with the mainstream (ahem, Mudvayne, Slipknot) and become homogenized rock bands.

MAIL TIME

Diesel,

Well, it's been a while, but here I am requesting another song.  I recently read that Metallica are doing a tour in which they will play the "Black Album" in its entirety...backwards!  This is cool because a lot of those songs towards the end of the album never get any airplay.  Hence my request:  The God That Failed.

While you're at it, wish me luck - I'm up for promotion to minimum-custody (green clothes) in June.  These a**holes have turned me down twice already.  I can only come up for review every six months.  I need my "greens" so I can strive for work release and build some capitol up for when I get out in 2016.  I've been "down" for over 5 years with zero infractions (no trouble) and I've worked for slave wages the whole time.  The powers that be said they turned me down because I have a violent crime.  But they steady pass this sh*t out to f*cking chesters!  All I did was run out of crack and rob a store.  C'mon!  Who hasn't done that before.

Later dude,
Prison Zack

Get You Some!!!

Researchers at the University of Texas have identified the main signs men look for when they THINK a woman is easy.

-- Acting or dressing childish or goofy

-- Looking sleepy

-- Looking or acting drunker than reality

-- Licking her lips a lot.

-- Touching her own breasts??? - This one is crazy obvious but I don't think I've ever seen a woman do this.

Thank You VERY Much

To anyone who works in the service industry,

Today I turn 28 years old.  I don't know if I'm getting pickier with age or if things really are this bad everywhere I go.  There are people like me who think a waiter or bartender's tip should be reflective of the level of service provided.  Perhaps I'm missing something here, but I am of the opinion that the subtotal on my bill states (however marked up) the cost of the tangible food I just ate plus various other business expenses.  Your TIP is based on two simple things:  effort and attitude.  If you can't provide either, I shouldn't feel compelled to help you make money.

I come to a restaurant or bar to get away from my problems, not feel the wrath and/or apathy associated with yours.

Last night I stopped to grab a beer and some wings at Quaker Steak and Lube in Greenville.  The bartender was a jerk, ignored me for the first 5 minutes I was sitting right in front of him, never asked once if the food was ok or if I needed anything until after I had had time to finish everything, and treated everyone else at the bar the same way.  So, on a $16.50 bill I tipped him $1 (and he didn't even deserve that).

I have worked in the service industry.  I know what it's like to work for variable amounts of money on a daily basis.  I am a very generous tipper when good service is provided, and I'm more than willing to be a crappy tipper when it's not.

Leave your comments below if you feel the same way.

Want chicks? Do this (apparently)

Morgan Spurlock, the 'Supersize Me' guy has a new documentary coming out...apparently guys are supposed to be manscaping now more than ever.  Here are the five rules they gave for keeping yourself together (and ultimately getting laid):

1.  Shave or wax your back, but keep it a secret...let it be a mystery like, "honey where'd all that hair go?"

2.  Don't shave your chest, but if you have some freaky Austin Powers thing going on...you might want to trim.

3.  Never go completely bald in your nether regions.  Apparently it makes women think you're trying too hard.

4.  Don't shave your face on the weekends...chicks dig stubble.

5.  If you're not a cyclist or swimmer never EVER shave your arms or legs.

Still I don't know what the big deal is...Tom Selleck never manscaped and my mom still watches Magnum P.I. every night.

Diesel's Broken Toe

So I don't know if you've been keeping up with my facebook fan page @diesel933 but on Tuesday, May 2nd I woke up to use the bathroom around 6am.  I was so bleary eyed and sleepy that on my way back to bed I walked right into my bedroom door frame (a gauntlet which I've successfully navigated about six THOUSAND times).

My manhood was uninjured but I'm PREEETY sure I broke a toe on my left foot, and I want to keep you up to date with my progress here on my blog.  WHY?  Idk, maybe your sick twisted ass is interested, haha.

This photo was taken on day two May 3rd.

Exercising my rights

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

The fathers of this country believed in those words enough to make it the second amendment ot the United States constitution.  Just about two weeks ago I exercised my right to bear arms and purchased my first gun.  A Springfield Armory XD .45 ACP.  Do I feel my life or property are in any immediate danger?  No, of course not.  But one thought has come to mind since I became a gun owner.  You might not believe in guns, but the bad guys do.  I became a gun owner for several reasons:  security, preparedness, and recreation.  Shooting is cathartic.  It's a great stress relief and its fun.

Do you own firearms?  What kind?

TIME TO MOVE ON!!!

It's been six days since Whitney Houston died and I can't get away from the coverage.  CNN devoted over an hour of programming to "remembering Whitney" tonight and for the life of me I can't figure out why.

Look, I'm not an insensitive pr**k, but let's face facts, people overdose and die EVERY DAY and most of us don't bat an eyelash, but when a celebrity goes on a path of self destruction and kills themselves suddenly they are a saint who needs to be remembered.  What's the matter, Charlie Sheen didn't take his addiction far enough for everyone?  People said he was a doped up animal, but HE lived.  Would everyone have ignored his recent exploits and sanctified him if he'd died?  Seeing her blood means we forget Whitney did this to herself?  Just because she sang a few hit songs in the 90's we put her on a pedestal?  Seems like a sliding / warped scale of morality to me.

I'm not saying that she doesn't deserve remembrance, but IT'S TIME TO MOVE ON.  A sudden and unexpected death is a tragedy.  What she did is called being a junkie and paying the price for it.

Should I feel bad for feeling this way?

METALLICA -- Irrelivant? Sad But True

It pains me to say it, but it's like finding out your best friend likes dudes and has been secretly checking you out for years; ignore it all you want but the problem is still there.

How can it be that arguably the BIGGEST rock and metal band of all time just doesn't matter in today's music landscape?  *AHEM...Lars, James, Kirk, Robert...* THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU PUT OUT CRAP ALBUM AFTER CRAP ALBUM. I was twelve when 'Load' came out in 1996.  I bought it on the strength of songs like "Until It Sleeps" and "King Nothing", which I still think are great tracks, but it wasn't until I looked backward and found possibly the greatest four album streak ever:  'Kill 'Em All', 'Ride the Lightning', 'Master of Puppets', and '...And Justice For All' that I realized how good this band had really been.

I guess what I'm trying to get at is no metal head is going to run back into their burning house to save their copy of 'St. Anger' or *shudders* 'Lulu'.  When you're riding around with your boys, do you say, "Hey man...crank that insert name here song from 'Death Magnetic'"?  I think not.

They can keep putting out albums for the next 15 years, and yeah, I'll keep buying them hoping to hear something that reminds me of 'Battery' but you won't catch me holding my breath for it...otherwise I'd end up as dead as their relevance.

But hey, this is just my opinion.  What do you think?  Leave a comment below
