EARTHQUAKES AND HURRICANES, LESBOS AND GEEKS
Well a LOT has happened since I last blogged, so here goes:
Last weekend (not this past weekend, the one before) I announced for the Upstate Rollergirl Evolution (U.R.G.E.) bout at the Pavilion on Saturday the 20th. They had a new guy announcing with me from The Zone in Mauldin who goes by the name Chocadile Dundee. To say that this guy was a trip is an understatement as well as a handful since he had kids coming up to us during the bout to answer trivia questions. This is a big no no since they could get hurt and some of the refs were already being exceedingly rude to begin with. However, we got through it and I gave him some tips on the sport and he actually made a quite good commentator which I am not!
After the bout, I joined the ladies at the after party which was being held at The Twisted Lemon. When I got there, I started chatting with Smashley Balls and her boyfriend Jeremy who was a fellow geek as he was proudly sporting a Captain America t-shirt. As we chatted, I started to notice the increasing number of rather masculine looking women that were filling the bar. When I stated this observation to another rollergirl, she informed me that it was a lesbian bar. Needless to say, I was rather surprised but continued to chat and observe with Jeremy.
Fast forward to Tuesday and, of course, the 'big' news that day was the 5.8 earthquake in Virginia that was felt throughout the eastern U.S. There were those that made a big deal out of it and those that were like "Big deal!" but I found it interesting as I felt the tremor in my office while I was on the phone with Steve from RadioContraband.Com. It felt like a train was passing nearby and it was Steve that told me he thought I was experiencing an earthquake. Some of my neighboring coworkers who also felt the tremor were shouting through the halls about it and I believe it was our engineer Jordan who stumbled upon the news of the mild yet rare earthquake. Not to get overly excited about it, but I was rather amazed considering I have never felt the Earth move OUTSIDE of the bedroom!
After work Wednesday night I ran over to Buffalo Wild Wings for Borderlands Comics' Geek Trivia. I enjoyed some great food courtesy of their manager Tony and teamed up with some fellow geeks whose superior geek knowledge led us to 2nd place! However the force was strong with me for the Stars Wars questions! Can't wait to do it again!
Friday night Tessa and I finally went to Chophouse '47 and used the $100 gift certificate I got back in January....of LAST YEAR! She had a nice fillet and I had a huge 2 lb lobster and we shared some cheesecake and some chocolate bourbon pecan pie so we definitely got our gift certificate's worth!
The rest of the weekend we relaxed and kept up with the path of Hurricane Irene as she slammed into the coast of NC and cruised right on through the rest of the east coast! I just hope the Atlantic stays quiet as we get ready to head to Surfside Beach, SC this Thursday!
